Dominic Solanke scored a dramatic late equaliser as Tottenham Hotspur fought back for a 1-1 draw at Manchester United. The point, earned despite playing the final twelve minutes with ten men, lifts Roberto De Zerbi's side off the bottom of the Premier League table.
Bryan Mbeumo had put the hosts ahead in the 73rd minute, capitalising on a rare defensive lapse. Tottenham's task became significantly harder just five minutes later when substitute Rodrigo Bentancur was shown a straight red card for violent conduct. The visitors, however, showed remarkable spirit and were rewarded in the final minute of normal time. Sandro Tonali delivered a precise cross and Solanke powered a header home to salvage a point.
De Zerbi was adamant his team merited at least a draw. "For sure we didn't deserve to lose the game, we deserved to be 1-2 goals up in the first half," the manager said. He also addressed Bentancur's dismissal, offering support while acknowledging the error. "I kissed Rodrigo and I said thanks, because it's clear - it's a mistake from Rodrigo, because it's not the right reaction in football, but now Tottenham needs to react."
The draw moves Tottenham up to 19th place with three points from their opening six matches. They have now scored just three league goals this season, a concern De Zerbi will need to address quickly. The team's next challenge is a home fixture against Coventry City on Monday night.
