Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi has indicated the club could complete one more signing before the summer transfer window closes on Tuesday night. This comes after the Premier League side secured a double swoop on Manchester City, bringing in Savio for a package worth £85 million and Omar Marmoush on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy for a potential £60 million.
De Zerbi made the suggestion following a dinner with club owners and executives Vinai Venkatesham, Johan Lange, and Enrico Venturelli. The Italian manager expressed his delight with the club's aggressive market activity. "I didn’t expect one transfer market and one window like we have done," De Zerbi said. Tottenham's total summer expenditure has now surged past the £350 million mark, with Marmoush becoming the eighth new arrival.
Omar Marmoush offers De Zerbi valuable versatility in attack. The forward can operate across the front line and also serve as an alternative in the number 10 role. This provides important cover, especially with James Maddison not yet at full fitness and Mohammed Kudus only just returning from a lengthy tendon injury. Marmoush brings a proven goal threat, having scored 37 goals during an 18-month spell at Eintracht Frankfurt and 16 for Manchester City. He may start on the bench for Saturday's Premier League match against Newcastle United as he integrates.
Savio is also in line for his full debut this weekend. The significant investment in these players shows the club's ambition to climb from their current 17th place in the Premier League, where they have zero points from one game.
The squad is taking shape under new captain Micky van de Ven, who led the side in a 5-1 Carabao Cup victory over Charlton on Wednesday alongside Pedro Porro. Mohammed Kudus could feature in the matchday squad for the first time since January, offering a major boost. However, uncertainty remains around the future of midfielder Pape Sarr, who is available but whose situation is unclear as the deadline approaches.
De Zerbi was effusive in his praise for the two new arrivals from City. "I think Savio and Marmoush are bomba," the manager stated. "I don’t know what name or how you can call them but players of a high level, for sure." Their immediate impact will be needed, as the team has conceded three goals without scoring in the league so far, leaving them six points behind leaders Manchester City.
Attention now turns to the immediate fixture schedule. After hosting Newcastle, Tottenham travel to face Nottingham Forest on September 5th. Forest currently sit 15th, making it a key early-season encounter for a Spurs side desperate for their first points. The full run of upcoming matches is available on our fixtures page.
The potential for a final deadline-day addition adds another layer of intrigue. De Zerbi's comments suggest the spending may not be over, as the club looks to build a squad capable of reversing their poor start. With the window shutting at 11pm on Tuesday, the focus at Hotspur Way will be split between finalising any late business and preparing for a critical period of matches where results are essential.
