Lucas Bergvall's Transfer Saga Continues
Tottenham Hotspur are bracing for further interest in Lucas Bergvall as Manchester City enter negotiations to sell one of their stars. Bergvall has been heavily linked with a move away from Spurs this summer, with Nottingham Forest a potential destination.
As reported by football.london, Tottenham have already rejected bids from Forest and Newcastle for Bergvall this summer, which came after the Sweden international expressed a desire to leave the club. Forest have been keen to sign a new midfielder following Elliot Anderson’s move to City, with Tijjani Reijnders seen as a target.
However, The Athletic have reported that City are now in advanced talks with Saudi Pro League club Al Qadsiah over a deal that would see Reijnders leave the Etihad Stadium. Should a deal go through, it could force Forest to look at other midfield targets, which could point them back towards Bergvall once again.
Bergvall has been a regular figure in the Tottenham team during pre-season, with the midfielder’s camp expressing a desire to leave north London earlier in the summer, particularly after the arrivals of Mateus Fernandes and Sandro Tonali. However, football.london understands that Bergvall has been working hard during pre-season to try and impress Roberto De Zerbi, and has been rewarded with a start in almost every game during the club’s tour of New Zealand and Australia.
It is also understood that there is an appreciation from Bergvall’s side that De Zerbi has regularly involved the midfielder in pre-season, even if there is an understanding it may not lead to the same amount of minutes when the Premier League season starts. Bergvall’s future is still understood to remain open, with no decision made either way on whether or not the 20-year-old will remain at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium or embark on a new challenge.
The midfielder signed a six-year contract just over 12 months ago that runs until 2031, and there have been reports suggesting that Spurs have placed a minimum £60million valuation on his signature. De Zerbi was asked about Bergvall’s future earlier this summer, with the Tottenham boss making his feelings clear.
"I’m always being very clear with him and with you. I would like that he stays with us. I think he’s potentially a top top top player. But then I don’t want to convince anyone to stay," De Zerbi said earlier this summer.
