Lucas Bergvall has committed his future to Tottenham Hotspur by signing a new long-term contract. The 20-year-old Swedish midfielder's deal was announced on Friday, reinforcing the club's midfield plans as they sit 17th in the Premier League with two points from four games.
Bergvall's previous contract was set to expire in 2031, but the new agreement extends his stay further. He joined Tottenham from Swedish side Djurgarden in 2024 and has since made 80 appearances in all competitions. During the summer transfer window, he attracted interest from Premier League rivals Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest.
"I think we’re building something great here," Bergvall said. "It’s an exciting time for the club and that’s why I’m happy to extend my contract."
Head coach Roberto De Zerbi welcomed the news. "I believe his best football is still ahead of him and we want to give Lucas the platform to reach his full potential," De Zerbi said.
Bergvall has also gained valuable international experience, featuring for Sweden at the World Cup. He came off the bench against Tunisia, Japan and the Netherlands, and started in their 3-0 round of 32 defeat to France.
His renewal comes as Tottenham prepare for a key home fixture against Aston Villa this Saturday. Villa, who are 19th in the table, won the last meeting between the sides 2-1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in January. Fans can check the full fixtures schedule and view the current standings.
The club did not disclose the specific length or financial terms of Bergvall's new contract.
