Tyrese Hall is making a strong impression on Roberto De Zerbi during Tottenham Hotspur's first-team training sessions. The 21-year-old academy midfielder spent the recent three-week international break working with the senior squad and was then included in the warm-weather training camp in Marbella.

De Zerbi has been vocal about the challenges of integrating young players, describing the supervision of academy talents as "very complicated". The manager added, "I don’t want to 'forget them' or put the team’s youth players in a 'bad situation'." Hall's performances, however, have caught his eye, with the Italian noting the player's seamless adaptation to the pace of training and his excellent spatial awareness.

Hall's path to the first team

Hall joined Tottenham's academy at under-eight level after a spell with Chelsea. He signed a five-year contract in the summer of 2024 that ties him to the club until June 2029. To gain experience, he was loaned to League Two side Notts County last season, where he made over 30 league appearances and scored goals from a central midfield role.

Initially viewed by De Zerbi as a number ten in pre-season, Hall's role is now seen as more versatile, capable of playing as a central or attacking midfielder. He was expected to go out on loan again this summer, but a move did not materialise, leading him to rejoin Wayne Burnett's Under-21s. Despite being capped once by Jamaica, Hall is yet to make a first-team appearance for Spurs or be named in a Premier League matchday squad.

Context of a difficult start

This integration comes as Tottenham sit 19th in the Premier League, with just three points from their first six matches. Their next challenge is a home game against Coventry City this weekend. The club's recent form shows no wins in their last five outings, a period that includes a 1-1 draw at Manchester United before the break.

Several other youth players, including Luca Williams-Barnett, Calum Olusesi and Tye Hall, also trained with the first team in Marbella. Williams-Barnett has already made a competitive appearance, coming off the bench in August's Carabao Cup tie against Charlton Athletic. With the January transfer window approaching, loan or permanent options are expected to be considered for Hall if a first-team pathway remains unclear.
